1952
Edward J. Frey, Richard E. Riebel, Edward L. Stoddard and a few investors founded Foremost Insurance Company. Their motivation? To provide insurance to the thousands of American families who lived in mobile homes.
1961
Introduced Travel Sure, the first travel trailer insurance policy, tailored to meet the needs of a large new group of American travel trailer enthusiasts. The company’s move toward diversification had begun.
1962
Foremost was the first insurance company in the U.S. to commission a study to determine the effects of strong winds on mobile homes. We then worked with state legislators to create mandatory tie-down laws.
1967
Our specialization and expertise in the markets we served allowed us to go after additional new business as we introduced coverages specifically designed for motor homes and the people who used them.
1970
Boats, motorcycles, mini-bikes, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles — if people could drive it, Foremost could write it. Within a few years of launch, insurance for the recreational vehicle market was booming.
1970
Hurricane Celia hit the Gulf coast. Foremost claims adjusters created a temporary office in Texas to serve customers. Now, Mobile Claims Centers bring claim services to disaster situations within hours.
1980
Our brand-new automated processing system helped us process nearly 11,000 transactions a day. Today our agents use all kinds of digital tools to service our valued customers, including a customer portal and app.
1981
Introduced a group of products to meet the needs of mobile home owners over the age of 50 on a fixed income. This included features such as reduced rates, guaranteed renewability and multi-year policies.
1989
AARP® took notice of our specialized work for home owners over 50 and officially endorsed Foremost to offer mobile home insurance to AARP members. This program became available in all states except Hawaii over the next few years.
1995
Created the Foremost Mobile Fix-It Guide to provide mobile home owners with easy-to-follow instructions for DIY repairs. We later automated access to this information by building a Mobile Home Fix-It Guide website.
1996
Our customer-facing website Foremost.com went live. Today, customers use Foremost.com to get a quote, find an agent, view their policy documents, file a claim, pay their bill, read tips in our learning center and much more.
2000
Foremost was acquired by the Farmers Insurance Group®. This affiliation created tremendous growth opportunities for us to further enhance our products and more effectively meet customer needs.
2004
AARP officially endorsed Foremost to offer motorcycle insurance to AARP members, a program fueled not only by our willingness to innovate, but also by our commitment to superior claim service.
2007
Farmers acquired Bristol West®, enabling Foremost to launch an automobile product in the market. Bristol West has provided quality automobile insurance coverage to their customers since 1973.
2017
Foremost launched new owner-occupied and landlord/vacant condo programs. And as with all our insurance programs, customers have the flexibility to tailor their policy and create the level of coverage they want.
2019
As Foremost continued to grow with the market and create insurance solutions for all kinds of properties and customers, we introduced Foremost Choice® home – a program for standard homeowners.
2019
Bristol West launched a commercial auto product geared toward small business owners with nine or fewer vehicles. The program was introduced in Florida and continues to become available in additional states.
2021
The Farmers Insurance Group® acquired MetLife Auto & Home® business from MetLife®, creating exciting opportunities for customers and independent agents. Also, the Foremost logo was updated to reflect a fresh design.
